Is Wildcat certs a built-in function in IIS? I have no idea about it. It seems to be a third-party nonfree software via googleing.

Does this mean it's not possible to run SSL on a single DNN instance with multiple portals?

I prefer a single instance, partly because it keeps license costs down as many 3rd party modules allow installation on a single instance, and also because we manage a relatively small number of portals that do share some data in the database.

I know we will want to use SSL before too long, and this thread raises concerns that this will not cause some difficulties for us.

you can use wildcart or multidomain SSL certificates, alternatively as a low-price solution for login only, you should be able to configure a single URL for authentication, though I haven't tried it yet.

Unfortunately I need it for more than just login.  Though... maybe if URL's can be specified it could be ok.

Guess DNN isn't too clued up in this area and the best to ask are those that provide the certificates. Would that be right?

I was able to get a GoDaddy.com WildCard SSL cert to operate on my single install instace of DNN 4.9 with multiple child and parent portals which each have their own host header name (which as far as I can tell is required for GoDaddy.com's WildCard certs) and it all works fine with SSL pages on all portals.  The problem I'm having is when I have any domain name redirect to any of these sites via their host header name and mask the name so it looks like www.sitename.com instead of sitename.myhost.com it won't work with SSL.  I've tried a few different things and just can't figure it out.  Is there functionality for this to work in the beta version of 5?

Thanks,

Stefan Ott
