I am writing a module which is processing a basic workflow to request a business card for our employees. We need to have some default persons there, e.g. default person in charge for finally purchasing, default person for approving a card if no supervisor was found, etc. Now how can I add something like a "pick a user from the DNN userbase" to my module settings? Is there something available in the DNN framework?

Or is there a possibility to add specific right to a module, here like "allow purchasing", "approve business card" etc., so I would assign the user there?

When a business card request is viewed, a normal employee should only be able to see the business card request, while the supervisor assigned will see some buttons to approve or reject etc.

 there are 2 option:

either use custom permissions within your module, like UDT uses - be aware, that these will always include administrators role

another option is to use URLControl to browse for users - like you can use in the Links module to link to a profile (you can disable other types).

Thanks for your answer, Sebastian.

You mean that every user than has to be in an administrator role/has to have administrative rights?

Can you explan that more or do you have an example how to do that?

Jens,

  1. Due to current limitations in the DNN framework, module permissions are always granted to administrators role. We had to struggle with this in the UDT module and there are other modules as well, who do not want custom permissions always auto-assigned for admins, e.g. moderator roles etc.
  2. Place a Links module on your page and add a link. Select "user" type, select (or enter) a user name and same. Check out the database, table Links, how it is stored and the code, how the link is passed to linkclick.aspx
