I cannot get past the SMTP settings, I get the error:

There has been an error trying to send the test email. The error is:
host: The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address.

I tested the setting on Outlook and there it works. But here is no way.

Can you give some more information pls?

Which version?

What exactly have you entered (ok, leave out the password...)

What kind of authentication does your SMTP need? Is it your own or at DSL Provider?

It should be pretty straightforward.  Here is an example of configuration using SMTP authentication.

The only fields requred are the mail server (if your server does not use port 25, specify the port also like: mail.alkihomes.com:8080), and the username / password of a user which can authenticate on the server.

The one non-obvious part of this (depending upon your mail server settings) is that the host username specified in the Host Settings / Basic Settings may need to be valid.  It really should be anyway.

Hope this helps.

I assume, that you are facing issues within the installation, in this case please do not be irritated by the screenshot in previous post, which is from a inside the DNN installation, you will face after installation has succeeded.

In the installation wizard, you need to specify on the same screen the host email address and SMTP server credentials. You need to specify a valid email address for the host user, but SMTP test might continue to fail, in this case simply ignore it at this step and complete the installation without. You may adjust settings later inside the product.
