the first thing is... I am on windows XP doing this project for school. Here are the steps (i may miss a step but you get the gist)

1.) create the project in visual studio

2.) configure my web.config in two places for my SQL server database.

3.) ctrl F5 to compile and select custom configuration

4.) proceed to do custom configuration until it gets to "installing database scripts" (works fine up until here)

5.) runs for hours with no error but never finishes. does not even give any messages in the box.

I am stuck as to how to figure this one out as i am not new to .net framework but to dotnetnuke.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm having this same issue.

I've been able to install it on my web server fine under IIS6.  When installing locally (Vista Ultimate, IIS 7, DNN 5), I can't seem to get past the Installation Wizard's Installing Database Scripts page.  It just hangs indefinitely without any feedback.  No errors reported, etc.

I'm running on SQL Server 2005 (not express).  It seems to create the Version table and FindDatabaseVersion, GetDatabaseVersion and UpdateDatabaseVersion procs just fine.  After those have been created, it hangs.  Any ideas?  I'm seeing posts from people with this problem, but no responses.

Additionally, I've also tried running the installer in debug mode right out of VS2008.  No exceptions seem to be slipping through unhandled now that the installer's going.

I also wanted to mention that my event viewer is showing the following:

Exception information:
    Exception type: SqlException
Exception message: Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.dnn_GetHostSettings'.

I'm assuming this happened before the page was redirected to the InstallWizard.aspx page.  Since then, it's been the same ol' thing... wheels look like they're spinning, but no feedback reported through the page or the debugger.  Nothing happening in the database beyond what's stated in my above post.

Watching the Output window while running the installer through debug mode, when the InstallerWizard gets to the database install script step, it looks like it's throwing a ThreadAbortException:

A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
An exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in user code

The thread 0x16a4 has exited with code 0 (0x0).

It appears the thread just stops executing without notifying the server.  The program's not halting, and the debugger's not even catching it... this is just going strait to the Output window.  Nothing happens after this.

I finally did get the issue resolved by giving the database user all permissions, and basically giving it a server admin role in SQL Server 2005 developer edition.  I also ran the the (apparently old) intaller by selecting "Auto" on the first screen of the install wizard.
