Hi. We have a traditional client/server app where we want to expose som of the features to a webportal. We are considering using DNN as a framework for that portal. In that case all business logic will be in dlls that are .NET assemblies constructed in Powerbuilder ( the development tool for the client/server app). In DNN those modules basically would consist of UI for calls to the dlls. Can this be done fairly easy in DNN? Would you recommend doing so or is there a better way? Anyone that has experience of similar solutions?

sure, DNN is able to use other DLLs, this should be a viable way.

Another option we used for a client was accessing the app using web services, which works even, if the apps are on different machines and machine locations.

Ok, thanks for your answer! I have not tried to download dnn yet but is it easy to create your own modules? I found some kind of tutorial here http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN4_WAP/  Is this how to do it or are there other ways or better ways?

Module development requires some knowledge about DNN API, anything else is baked into the templates available and packaging can be handled by the DNN installation as well.

You can create your module using WAP (code compiled into an DLL) or WSP (source code included and compiled on the fly), as you like.

Please check out the Module Developers Guide (available in Support > Documentation > Downloadable Files in Menu above) and available Books.
