I have done a vanilla clean 4.0.2 install, on a XPsp2 system. It comes up ok, I can login as host and admin, and I've been able to create a portal. I am having trouble, however, with a couple of custom modules I've installed (XMOD 4.0 and ActiveModules 3.6). I have an idea it's some kind of security/permissions problem. I recall hearing about ASP.Net 2.0 problems w/Medium Trust, but I don't know if that is ancient history.

The nature of the problem is this - In XMOD, if I login to a portal as portal administrator, navigate to a page that has an unconfigured XMOD module on it, click Manage Forms, click Create New Form, I am kicked back to a login prompt, no longer logged in as portal administrator. If I login as host and do the same thing, I get to the Form Settings and Permissions window as expected.

I'm having similar problems trying to configure ActiveModules, things I should be able to do as portal administrator don't work, but they do work logged in as host.

I have a feeling there is some kind of web.config or other installation/setup magic I need to do, but I don't know what it is.

Any clues?

Back with a simpler version of the same problem...

I created a new child portal on this 4.02 site, now hosted at WH4L. The host portal is working normally, as is another parent portal on the same site.

If I login to the new child portal as portal administrator, go to Admin/Security Roles, click Add New Role, enter the Role Name and click Update, I am thrown back to a login screen. If I then login as Host, go to Admin/Security Roles, click Add New Role, enter the Role Name and Click Update, the role is successfully created.

I can do the same procedure on either the Host portal or the other (parent) portal on the site, as portal administrator, and successfully create a new role.

This seems like some kind of security, permissions, trust, etc. problem.

Any suggestions?

I had this same problem and it turned out to be a web caching issue

Ctrl+F4 fixed it

I believe I have isolated the problem. I copied this site (database and files) to my local system, and made the appropriate portal alias changes to be able to access the new child portal as localhost/parent/child. When I logged in as portal administrator, the same problem was evident, i.e. trying to add a new security role kicked me back to login.

I then created a new virtual directory so I could address the portal as localhost/child, and added this as a portal alias. When I accessed to portal this way, logged in as portal administrator, I was able to add new security roles.

I'm wondering if this is a known problem that has been corrected in a later release?

Im having the same issue here as well. Sometimes is back to normal sometimes it just get moody. I've tried adding a picture onto a article and save it then the problem arised. I was kicked out to the login page on the first click of button or any links. Then I logged in as the host and remove then picture as save the article. Logged in back as the admin portal and it's back to normal. I don't know man, im out of idea what's happening. Hope someone could help.
