I'm having an issue where we have unauthorized users but they're still getting our company newsletter. Short of deleting a user (this is for a client and I believe they want to keep the user in the system for some reason) what can I do to make sure they don't receive the newsletter?

What version of DNN?

You might have to create another Role and only put the authorized users in that role, send the newsletters to this new role.

4.8.

I'll talk to the client and let them know that a newsletter user group might be the only route but that seems like a lot of extra work.

Are you using subcriibers role, created for this purpose (and allowing the users to opt out)?

Besides, I strongly suggest to upgrade to DNN 4.9.3 for security reasons, upgrade is quite easy (Backup your site. unzip files of upgrade package and browse to your site).
