Hi Sebastian

I will try to outline it again, as I don't think I'm doing anything entirely out of the ordinary. Please let me know any of these points which is confusing.

  • I have a specific page for users to register an account (with the User Account module)

  • I have a different but specific page for registered users to edit their account (also with the User Account module)

  • I also have a few pages where Unauthenticated Users can register directly (again with the User Account module) on that page to access forms, downloads etc without needing to go to the specific Register an Account page.

  • I use the DNN Register token in the skin - so people can register or edit their profile once registered.

  • For editing profiles I have the site settings point the "User Page" to the Edit Account page (as opposed to the Register Account page), as this is where a registered user needs to go to edit their profile and account (as I use other modules alongside the DNN User Account module).

  • As my Edit Account page is designated as the "User Page", as Admin/Host I can only visit the Register page and other pages wanting to allow quick registration - in design mode else it redirects to the "User Page".

  • As I can only visit the Register or other pages with the module for quick registration in design mode - it won't let me easily access the edit text etc for the modules on the page, only move them around and edit settings... I have to manually note the module ID and enter a url string to access the edit text etc.

  • For location within the site (breadcrumb), page title (eg. Join or Edit Profile) - I would like to keep the Register and Edit pages separate.

Unfortunately DNN does not distinguish the User Account module or the "User Page" between a user registering, or  user maintaining their account.  I do feel there really is a difference between these which should be considered.

The redirect on the User Account module is just too much really... and I am suggesting the "User Page" in the Site Settings only be applied for directing users when clicking on the DNN:User skin object and not simply forcing a redirect on all pages with the User Account module.

Not always will they want to show as the same actual page within the site - as all additional information in modules could very easily be for different needs. We are left with the only option being a compromise and adding menu pages all redirecting to a generic "User Account" page that is setup for multiple users... which doesn't solve the issue with allowing users to register on other pages that may cover specific content areas - with the module shown only to Unauthenticated Users this is not the case for Admin/Host and it continually redirects all of these to the Edit Account page that needed to be specified

There most definitely is a login and other page settings... be it permanent or not but this is what I am referring to. Site Settings >> Advanced Settings >> Page Management and here it says "User Page".

Hi David,

now I understand your problem, but AFAIK there is no solution included in the framework. You might use 3rd party solutions or replace the many registration modules with links to a central registration page, which should also reduce the effort to keep all in sync. But for sure this is a different site concept.

The problem for the core team is to provide solutions for most of the use cases, which are easy to set up by newbees with an easy to gasp UI. The more features we get, the more this aim becomes a challenge for our developers ...

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
