Hi,

I'm completely new to DNN and trying to install DNN Starter kit. I've downloaded Visual Web Developer 8 and went through the process of creating a new site, the files are placed in:  C:\DotNetNukeSkinning       Everything seems to be going fine until the point where the browser window comes up but no install wizard. The error message;

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\web.config' is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to
Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

I believe the share/permission settings are set correctly, don't what else to do, I'm getting desperate, spent 3 days on this and need to be up running ASAP as future business is hanging on this.

I'm running XP pro SP2

Would very gratefull for some expertise assistance please.

Regards  Pete

So did you do as the error message suggested? Disabled Simple File Sharing and change the permissions on the directory? You need to give NETWORK SERVICE modify permissions (at minimum I think) on your DNN directory and force it down on all of the files.

Thanks for the reply Mike,

Sorry if this sounds real dumb but when I check the sharing/security settings on C:/DotNetNuke folder, the sharing tab gives me a choice: share or not, the security tab  have only 2 entries here and no "Network Service" should I be ticking all permission boxes? And the web share tab gives me a choice to share this folder or not. Should I be clicking the "no" button?

I also had an error when creating a new web site in VWD: "Thumbs.db could not be found within the project templates, continuing to run but the resulting project may not build properly" Don't know what I should do about this?

Would really appreciate you stepping me thru this.

Thanks in advance

Pete
