I use Visual Studio 2008 SP1. I installed the 5.0.1 starter kit into the Visual Studio templates. I am having issues installing to a remote server. This is what I have done so far. 1. In Visual Studio, Go to File | New | Website... 2. In the Templates dialog, change the .net version to 3.5, choose VB for the language, choose dot net nuke framework as the project type and leave the path/project name as the default. 3. Click ok and wait for a few minutes. 4. After the project is created, read the install directions window and then close it. 5. The install directions window said to do one of a few different things. You can: a. Press control f5 to start the installer, or b. Make custom settings changes in web.config and then press control f5 to start the installer 6. I chose to publish the website to the remote server and then browse to www.site.com/install/install.aspx (site.com is an example url, not a real one). 7. I ended up with a dot net nuke page that said "Error: dot net nuke version 05.0.01" with a link at the bottom. 8. Clicked the link and ended up with the same page again. 9. Made recommended changes in web.config and went back to the installer url above. 10. Got the same error page. Clicked the link on the page. 11. It was complaining about asp.net worker permissions. Had it fixed by server admin. 12. Browsed to installer url again. Got the same error page and clicked the link again. I got "This site is currently unavailable" message. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get the installer to run. Does anybody have advice on how to do this? The only thing I haven't tried is to run the installer on the dev computer while in Visual Studio.

It sounds like an IIS issue on the web server. Try running the site in its own application pool and make sure the ASP.NET version is correct and see if you can at least get to the site.

I got it to run (v5.0.1). I was able to start the installer and get to the modules/extensions install screen. I chose the ones I wanted to install (all of them) and clicked next. After a few minutes, I got a runtime error stating that the folder e:\public_html\eternityrecords\private\app_code\html was not allowed because this was a pre compiled website. I then deleted it the entire website, deleted the database it created and am going to try and start over from the beginning. Is it ok that app_code isn't included in the website?
