Having installed my DNN Install Download (ver 4.9.3) I then set about setting it up as a web project within VS2008. I followed the instructions from adefwebserver 'Setting up your ver 4.0 development environment' which refers to Visual Web developer 2005 Express edition and not Visual Studio 2008 but I figured the process would be the same. Having made the changes suggested I attempted to run debug F5 and received six errors

1. Type DBInfo not defined      Database.ascx.vb          37

2. Type Hostinfo is not defined          Host.ascx.vb       31

3. Name ModulesController is not declared          Modules.ascx.vb        32

4. Name PortalsController is not declared        Portals.ascx.vb          33

5. System.Data.SqlClient.ServerInfo is not accessable in this field because it is private        Server.ascx.vb         31

6. Name SkinsController is not declared        Skins.ascx.vb        33

Could you please tell me where I'm going wrong

Thank You

I have exactly the same problem, only I'm using VS2010.  Additional info:

1) copied production site to local computer
2) opened local version in VS2010 via "Open Web Site" option off the "File" menu.
3) opened Default.aspx
5) tried to run - errors as above

Interestingly, if I set the site up as an application on my local IIS it builds and runs with no problem.

Ideas?

It turns out that this was a problem with DotNetNuke.dll and several other files, being out of date.  It looks like there was a partial upgrade at some point and not everything got updated that should have been.

After copying in newer versions of the files in question I can now launch DNN via Visual Studio.
