Hi,

I've been given a copy of a client's site to have a look through. They've sent me a backup of the DB and all the site files.

I've installed it into my webroot and configured it as a website on localhost:311.  I've set up the DB and updated the connection string etc.

I've deleted the Portal Aliases and put in a new one as localhost:311  - but whenever I type that into my browser I just get redirected to the live site?

I've tried editing the web config to clear the cache, restarting IIS, stopping and restarting the site, recycling the Application Pool but nothing seems to work so it can't be a problem with the cache. What have I missed? Do I need to change the URL somewhere else or do something different? What am I missing or mis-understanding?

I'm on Vista 64 in case that makes any difference.

Really grateful for any help,

thanks,

Jez

except there is an additional URL specified in web.config, the only place for the URL would be the PortalAlias table. I'd suggest to revalidate the entries in it.

btw: instead of using a different port, use a custom name (e.g. "http://dotnetnuke") and enter it into /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file.

Thanks for the replies Sebastian.

I tried entering the following line into my hosts file but it didn't work:

127.0.0.1:311    thomassandersonuk.local

What would the correct format be to have it forwarded to that port.

In the meantime I've now put the site into my webroot instead of as a separate website (although I'd much rather not do this if I can avoid it).

However - when I log in as an administrator or host the system doesn't display the control panel? I've verified with the client that the username and password are correct and I've tested them on the live site and it works perfectly - however when I log in on my local it accepts the username and password but then just displays the site as normal??

Any ideas on what I've missed/ what is going wrong? I've checked that the user is marked as a superuser - what else could cause my copy not to display the control panel?

thanks again for you help and I'd really appreciate a reply to both of the above (particularly the admin one as I'm stuck at the moment!)

Jez

Hi Sebastian,

Please ignore my preivous post - I've figured it out now and I was being a moron.

I've added 127.0.0.1    mydnnsite.local to my hosts file

I've taken the website files back out of wwwroot and put them in a separate folder where I keep the rest of my websites

I've re-enabled the site I'd created in IIS and changed the bindings so it accepts mydnnsite.local as the host on port 80 for all unassigned IP addresses

Lo and behold the site now works perfectly and the control panel is displaying properly. Thanks very much for your help and sorry to waste your time!
