I have a DNN website running at a domain www.MyDomain.ie. Its current version is 4.08.02. Now I wish to upgrade it to version 4.9.4.

I applied the upgrade process. I copied the Upgrade files from version 4.9.4 to my seb site directory. I changed new web.config according to my website. and start the upgrade process using the following stinng.http://www.MyDomain.ie/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

I got the upgrade success message. After that when I type the URL inthe browser to access my web site, nothing happens. It searchs the site continuesly but did not display any thing form the web site. I waited a lot for the page to be displayed but useless.

Sever Certificate is installed on teh server where my web site is hosted. My web site is also SSL enabled. I am using Version 5.02 R2 of IIS.

Only on virtual directory that is created under my website is accessable through the URL
http://www.mydomain.ie/myVirtualdirectory.

Can any one help me.

when upgrading a site from any DNN version >= 4.6.2, use upgrade package and do not touch web.config manually. the upgrade wizard will handle this properly for you.

The same thing that I posted as question worked fine for my test site on my local environment.

In the upgrade wizard step, there is a point that
copy release.config from the latest version  as web.config and manulay add the entries to the new web.config from the old web site configuration file. If I do not change the web.config manulay, how will it add the entries to the new web.config file.?

One More thing can I use the web.config file from the old version of my web site for this process.

I tried the same this that you asked. But same problem exist.
Let me explain my problem in more detail.

My site is hosted on a machine having Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition as Operating System.
The files of my website (DNN Web Site) are on the root of wwwroot folder. Server Certificate is installed on the PC.
For the web Site I have checked / enabled the SSL Enabled and SSL Enforce checkboxes. Portal id of my Web site is 12.
Current version of my DNN Inatllation is 4.08.02 and I am upgrading it to version 4.9.4.
As per your Instruction for upgradation I copied files from Upgrade package of version 4.9.4 and pasted it on my current web site directory. I set the auto upgrade to false in the web.config.

then I browse my site to upgrade the version using the URL
http://www.MyDomain.ie/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade.

Upgrade success message is displayed. When I try to access my web site first time after upgrade using the url
http://www.mydomain.ie after a long time i got request time out message.

After that when i try it again to access the pages it shows a message in the status bar of the browser that web site found waiting for reply and continously searches for the web site.

I have also tried to mark the pages as unsecure against the portal 0, 12 and the portal id ( null).  and restarted the IIS, but ssame results.

I have also tried upgrade process by unchecking the check boxes (SSL Enabled and SSL Enforce) but same result.

Any Ideas where i am getting wrong. ???

Finally I got some solution to the problem.

When I start the upgrade process using the URL www.mydomain.ie/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade

It Upgrades the DNN verson. The interesting thing that happened is that the upgrade process renamed my default.aspx file to old_default.aspx, and copied a new default.aspx file. The code of newly copied default.aspx is as

<%@ Page language="VB" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="DotNetNuke" %>

                            SCRIPT code

the above code contains only a method i.e. Page_Load. This default.aspx page also does not contains the reference of code behind file (default.aspx.vb).

NOTE : I also tried to upgrade a fresh copy of DNN 4.08.02 to DNN 4.9.4. The above thing didnot happen on fresh installation.

So I just deleted the newly copied default.aspx and copied back orignal default.aspx. The site is working fine. Version is upgraded to 4.9.4.
