Hello everyone,

This is a beginners question so please bear with me... I am trying to develop a module that will just display contents from a table in the database.  The values for this table will be inserted by other application(not my module).  Whereever this module is displayed, it would still display the same content.   I know that any module can be displayed to any pages(quantity doesn't matter either), so in my case, the content that will be displayed will not change.

Now my question is, when i create this table... Do I need to put a Module Id and have it reference to the Modules table of DNN.  From what I understand, the module id is only relevant if you want to have unique data on every instance of the module.  The most common example for this is the Text/HTML module.

Are there other uses of this module id?  Is it required to have it in every module that is created?  What 's the implication if  I don't assign any module id on my custom module.  I still can't fully grasp its purpose.

Any answer or a link that explains this is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

ModuleId is only required if you want to have unique content per module. In your usecase, you dont need to use a moduleid at all
