Which version is suiteble for DNN, MS SQL Standard version or MS SQL Enterise version?  I got to buy a version/license and not sure which would be best.

All versions arre suiteble for DNN. All depends on your needs. (not compact)

If you dont know your needs and have the money buy Enterprise edition. You never know if you get a machine with 8 cpu's and thosends of visitors.

I don't think you will reach a state where you must use the Enterprise Version.

Beside the fact that it can handle 8 CPUs it is 10 times more expensive.

My suggestion:
- start with Standard
- when running into the first performance issues separate Web and DB Server physically
- in 2 or 3 years when you really need the Enterprise make an upgrade to SQL2010 or whatever name it will has and if needed to Enterprise (it is possible to crossgrade)
- decide either to buy an pretty expensive new server with 8 CPUS or a cheap second one like you have today and build a cluster

But i'm not believing you will reach this state. A more or less fast machine with "some gig of ram" should be enough.
