First off I would like to apologize if this is a repeat question.  However every search I run in the forums is timing out.

I am in the act of trying to migrate my dnn site from a 2003 windows server using a 2005 sql express database to a 2008 windows server using a 2008 sql express database.  My 2003 server is getting old and I am afraid it will die.  Anyway I have been doing some load testing and have discovered some huge time differences.  The 2008 server CPU is bigger and the server has more memory than my  current 2003 server.  However the 2008 server is actually quite a bit slower when I am navigating around my dnn site.  I can see in task manager the 2008 server is using more of the processor than the 2003 server.  My dnn version is 4.09.00.  I have made no changes in dnn on the 2008 server.  The caching is the same.   I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions of what I can do to try fix this speed issue?  I truly appreciate the help, thank you.

-Chris

The best way to compare the win2003/MSSQL2005 and Win2008/MSSQL2008 is in full versions and not in MS SQL express version because there might be an implementation from Microsoft to not make the MSSQL2008 express as fast as the MSSQL2005 express was .... Of course this would be to sell more MS SQL server licenses ..... I have to say I have been impressed/suprised that the speed of MS SQL 2005 has been a sgood as it has been ... but I only buy proper MS SQL licences at my ISP:s  for my heavy load sites ..... it also cost very little I think to connect to MS SQL fullversion .. about 10 US dollars a month ....anyone who thinks that is way to much ?

I wouldn't expext much performance gain from using SQL Server 2008 instead of 2005, because SQL server already has been a very stable and optimized product and DNN doesn't use any of the ned SQL 2005/2008 features. There will be more benefit from using Windows 2008, expecially 64bit, which supports more RAM and IIS pipeline mode integrates ASP.Net support into the web server core, mich runs much faster than classic mode or IIS 5 (Win2003).
