Hi,

I'm new to DNN and I'm trying to create a very simple site which allows users to log in and print / view / download a list of documents.
The list of documents should be specific to the logged in user, they shouldn't be able to see each others documents.

Additionally, the documents are not to be added manually by the user, but are to be imported by a batch process to a location on the server. So this means the "Add new document" etc functions are of no use.

There are a few ways of approaching this, that I can see:
1. Use the Document module and get the batch import to insert the relevant database records and put the files into the appropriate location on the server.
I'm not sure how the documents would be filtered by user in this case though.
2. Use the User Defined Table module in much the same way as point 1 above, except that I could probably use the SQL filter of the UDT to filter so the
documents list only contains the logged in user's documents.
3. Create a custom module using Visual Studio. I haven't looked into this too much, but it's not really the approach I'd like to go for.

Has anyone got any better ideas on how to accomplish this task? Or am I on the right track with some of these ideas?

Thanks,
Ben

Thanks for the link.

I've had a look at it and it seems to almost do what I want, the only problem seems to be that if you find the right URL, a user can view any document regardless of whether it belongs to them or not.

I'm going to look into writing my own module which streams the files from the database rather than accessing them using the server location.
