Hi,

I run a DNN 4.94 site and am looking to improve my site. I figure what better way then to get a book and start to learn. I have been looking at the Idiot guide to range of books and just need a little advice on what to buy that will help me.

I am not a total novice but I would not call myself an expert, more a little proficient with DNN. THe books I have been looking at are either Idiot guide to ASP.net 3.5 or Idiot guide to DotNetNuke. What I hope to get from this is the ability to expand my DNN site and to be able to start to put together custom modules to enable my site to deliver the custom content I need. Things like extended user profile pages, custom databases etc.

So any advice anyone can give me would be a big help.

Thanks

None of the books written for the 4.x version will cover the 4.9.4 version, I think the newest might be in the 4.3 range.  None of the new books cover the 4.x version.  Forget books.  Check out the DNN Angel admin and user guides in the Marketplace.

For custom programming, get Mitch Sellers' book.  Hands down.  Also Michael Washington's blogs and http://www.adefwebserver.com/.

IMHO, if you are aware of the few UI differences between 4.9.4 and 5.0 (Extensions and Extension installer, delegation of admin modules and revoke of permissions), current DNN 5 books will cover DN 4.9.4 as well.
