Hi,

I am using Announcements module 03.01.00 on DNN 337.

I have problem with Read More link when Link Type is set to file

Ex. I set the link to file http://www.domain.com/portals/1/test.txt

URL created by the module is http://www.domain.com/LinkClick.aspx?link=test.txt&tabid=118&mid=681

The problem is that when I click the Read More link, it is opened an empy text file (both by download and by open directly)

When I type the URL http://www.domain.com/portals/1/test.txt then the file is opened with the its content.

I tested again using a PDF file.

The Read More link has this error:  There was am error opening the document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

But the PDF file can be opened properly whenever I am typing the URL  http://www.domain.com/portals/1/test.pdf

If anyone knows a good solution to this please let me to know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Doru

the only thing you can try is to turn of the option to track clicks on the link. the url should render normally then

mind you:

  • the announcements module actually just exposes core functionality here, so this cannot be solved in the module
  • you are using a very old version of dnn, i'm pretty sure this is fixed in newer versions

Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Do you know why I was not notified by email about your answer even though I checked the notification checkox?

I turned off the option to track clicks on the links but the URL was the same.

Please know that the module worked properly on the previous hosting.

The error appeared only after I moved the website on a new hosting. All the other modules from the website are working properly on the new host.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks,

Doru

notification to specific posts does not work. You either need to subscribe to the whole forum, or to check your own posts on a regular basis. This will be fixed in the next version of the forums module...

Regarding your issue: changing hosting does not impact module behaviour at all. There are 2 reasons for a linkclick to be generated afaik:

  • tracking is on
  • permissions to folders are not set to everyone (dnn permissions, available in site>filemanager)
