Sorry Michael

I was out of town yesterday with no computer access. It was probably the web.config that got created in the ActiveDirectory directory on your website. A case of Microsoft trying to be smarter than you are.

Mike,

no problem. The web.config was created at the second time as well, and there is nothing special about it. It just overwrites the "standard" application settings concerning the Authentication settings for the file WindowsSignin.aspx.

This web.config can also be deleted and matched into the web.config at the application root, but it is definitely not necessary.

Hello,

I am having trouble with the auto login feature using Windows 2008/IIS 7 and DNN 5.5.1, with the 5.0.3 AD Module. Both standard and windows login work manually. I am using an administrator account for impersonation. I have configured WindowsSignIn.aspx to enable Windows Authentication and disable Anonymous authentication. I am using the Classic .net AppPool as Network Service. I have run the command line commands on the server. I have set the auto login IP range as 10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255.

I've been over all the settings multiple times and nothing seems to work. However when I move the site to a 2008R2 server with IIS 7.5 everything works as it should. Unfortunately R2 is not an option for the site I am working on. Is there anything I might be missing, or some key difference in IIS 7.5 vs. 7 i'm not aware of? Any new directions would be appreciated.

Ben Gilmore,

The part you might be missing is on the client side. Assuming this is an intranet and visitors are hitting the site from a domain member, they will need your site listed in the Local Intranet Zone of IE. I do this through a GPO and it works great. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response Mike.

I did not add that part in my post. I have tried adding the site as an intranet site by both domain name and IP as well as navigating right to WindowsSignIn.aspx by IP address to no avail.
