Hi,

how do you log information from a business controller class? I looked at the EventLogController class. But there are only mehtods available which require the PortalSettings. In the context of a controller class I don't have access to this information.

How do you log in this context?

Thanks in advance, Matze

Try this: DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.LogException(ex)

Also, you can do something like this to get the portal settings of any portal:

Dim settings As New PortalSettings(1)

So if you pass in the portalId to your controller you can then use it in the constructor of PortalSettings.

Hi,

first thanks for your answers. I don't want to log exceptions but information. Unfortunately the PortalSettings class doesn't has a constructor which takes the portalID as a parameter.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Matze,

To achieve the end you desire, you'll need to use the LogController class (as opposed to the EventLogController class).  It exposes an AddLog method that accepts a LogInfo instance as a parameter; though this LogInfo class exposes a portalId property, it is not required.  As such, you will be able to log information that is not in the context of any particular portal.

Note, however, that without a portal binding, only hosts will be able to view the information logged.  If the event really "belongs" to a portal -- and not to the installation as a whole -- consider supplying this value.

Hope this helps!

Brandon
