Hi -

Couple of questions on setting up DOTNETNUKE 5.1.0

1) I downloaded the Communitiy Edition 5.1.0 of DotNetNuke (Source and Install) and tried to compile the solution (VS2008). For some reason, I get lot of Errors for missing namespaces when I build the solution.  I normally include (IMPORT) the namespaces in each class, but I guess it is not mandatory.  I tried including the namespaces but it seem to be a herculus task.  How can I get around this error?

2) I tried the Community Edition 5.1.0 (Install version).  Did set it up in IIS and then I get the

Parser Error Message: The entry 'ScriptModule' has already been added.

I did google and tried out various suggestions like commenting them, the 'Remove/Clear' options in the web.config, but to no avail.

I would appreciate some help here.

regards,

ST

Why did you try to compile the source version?  Especially since that's noot supported.  Did you read the installation documentation?

Hi Jeff -

I am not sure what you mean. The 'Source version' download has the VS2008 solution along with the files and I tried to compile them in my local machine as I was having difficulties with the 'Install' version (Parser Error Message: The entry 'ScriptModule' has already been added) when I tried to setup in IIS.

Anyways, the reason I got the errors was that the website did not have the web.config file (instead had the release.config file) that included the NAMESPACES.  I was able to proceed once I renamed the release.config to web.config file.

I thought the SOURCE Version download would provide us the flexibility to customize the code to our requirements and hence I took that approach.  Am I missing something here?

While the source code for DotNetNuke is available, you should exercise caution when modifying it and then using the modified code in a production setting. This is because DotNetNuke upgrades assume an unmodified Core. If the Core has been modified, there is no guarantee that future upgrades will work, or that your changes will persist.

It is better to leverage any of DotNetNuke's several extensibility points to achieve your goals. These include Providers, Modules, Skins, SkinObjects, Containers, Widgets, LanguagePacks and also ASP.NET extensions such as HttpModules and HttpHandlers.
