Derek,

This looks like a very nice module.  I am curious, does this do a full copy of the DNN installation directory?  And what versions of SQL Server are you supporting for the backup?  Have you tested this in shared hosting environments.

If you want to take the conversation away from here, feel free to email me directly at msellers@iowacomputergurus.com, I am very interested and have a few really good ideas on how you can take this to the next step!

Yes, the module does a full copy of the entire installation directory. Currently the module has been successfully tested in both SQL Server 2005 Standard and SQL Server 2005 Express.  I have plans to test the application in SQL Server 2008 (when I upgrade my server) and SQL Server 2008 Express in the near future.  I have not tested the module's functionality with SQL Server 2000 or really planned on it, unless the module's popularity grew and requests for support where made.  I personally have not tested the module in a shared environment but have had (good) feedback from those who have, but at this time I can not guarantee the compatibility in all shared environments.

If the web server is on a different box from the database server, are you still able to do a natural SQL Server backup file (rather than a longhand sql script)? If so - that is something I'm looking for. Whenever I attempt to do a backup of my SQL database on shared hosting via SQL Management express from my local PC, the database server still seems to look for file system that is local to it, and I don't have write privileges there.

If database and webserver were on the same box, as in some hosting instances, that wouldn't be a problem, but for many of us, we don't have that setup. Are you able to do a natural SQL backup from the webserver when it is on a different box from the SQL Server, and without write privileges to the file system on the SQL Server itself? Backing up, then to disk space on the web server?

If so ... I'm excited.

Thanks -

Michael,

This would be a limitation \ oversight of the current version.  I hope to have a solution to this problem as well as several enhancements to the current module in the next few weeks.  Continue to watch the "Announce It" forumn for further updates.

Thanks for your feedback.

Derek
