On Vista/Win 7 you have to open VS as Administrator.

That shouldn't crash it though.

I have found something interesting.

When the Website Target FrameWork 2.0 but the web.config file contains this section:

<assemblies>

<add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"/>
<add assembly="System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/>
<add assembly="System.Data.DataSetExtensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089"/></assemblies>
</assemblies>

Then VS crashes.

If I use .Net FrameWork 2.0 for a Website I cannot change to 3.5, VS crashes.

We had a similar question a while back in these forums. From memory they either reinstalled Visual Studio or they got their answer from the Visual Studio forums.

Ok, I finally found a solution to this extremely frustrating problem, at least on my machine:

Issue the following commands from a Visual Studio 2008 Command Prompt:

ngen /delete *
ngen update

That's it!  I'm now able to open DNN web projects that are built in .NET 3.5.
