Hi, firstly thanks to Steve for directing me this module and, indeed, for creating something that looks so useful.

I've spent a couple of long evenings experimenting with the module and investigating the forum, but I need some guidance as to what I can achieve and how I can achieve it as I find I'm going round in circles a little. I'm hoping someone can save me a few more days of scratching my head...

I've got the module working exactly as I need it for a 'guide' section, broken down into categories - but I only needed the basics of a title, image and text for each guide.

The bit I'm struggling with is a 'profile' section. What I want is:

  • A whole host of items for each person (in this case a bunch of racers)
    • A 'basic info' which would ideally be to a very specific design so all profiles look the same (such as home town, race series, DoB, etc)
    • An interview
    • A table of race results
    • Many race reports which need to feed into RSS
    • A photo gallery
  • I ideally want each racer to be able to update her own profile, with me (or other moderators) to approve

Will the repository allow me to store such separate pieces of information about a single person?

So far the best I've come up with is a repository with a category named after each racer. I've then added sub-categories for each of the above items. Using the Repository Dashboard I'm able to allow a visitor to see a list of all the racers, but I can't find a way of showing all the information about one racer in the way I want it - each item in its place on a page. I've taken a look at Repository skins and that, perhaps combined with templates could address all the one-off bits of info I imagine, but not the races reports. Is that correct? If so, do I need to create  one Repository for one-off info and another for the race reports? If so, how do I display a page for each racer showing all the one-off info and a list of her race reports?

Another thought was to create a Repository for each racer, but in fact that seems to leave me pretty much in the same position.

Oh, I'm not particularly bothered if all racers are able to edit eachother's info, since it has to be approved anyway, though it would be nicer if I restrict it.

Do I need to back up slightly and use the menu features of DNN's basic package for the racer names???

Any would be much appreciated. Please bear in mind that my grip on web technologies disappeared some years ago, so I'm back to basics and will get lost with too much terminology or editing of code...

Susie,

If you would 'sketch' out (in terms of the UI / functionality) what you are looking to do, maybe I can help ... feel free to send me some more details at steve.fabian@dotnetnuke.com and I'll see what I can do
