on top of Sebastians advise, please also check the DNN security bulletins on a regular basis. The are located here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/News/SecurityPolicy/tabid/940/Default.aspx

Needless to say; if you are running a DNN version that is older than 4.9.4, you really should upgrade asap, as older versions have several security issues that are actively being exploited

Hi Eric:

First of all, let me thank you and Leopold for your time and attention. I did write to security@dotnetnuke.com  and got lightening and thoughtful replies from Cathal Connolly. Thanks to Cathal for that too.

You and I have IM'd about usability in the past (in conncection with the announcements team) and, at the risk of being a pain, I'd like to say that as a non-priogrammer (and someonw who is representative of a huge market for DNN) this is really very hard for a non-developer.

IMO, we need to get a bunch of "How Do I...." materials into a single place on the website so that others with a similar problem can easily find and implement the solutions. I think there is a lot of value to DNN in making it easier for technically aware business people to make more effective use of DNN. Drupal is doing this by creating an open source usability team and I attended a conference where the results were presented. It's an impressive effort and they are getting good results. They are working on their website and  their portal as well.

Frankly, I'm frightened by wht happened to my site. I don;t know why it occurred nor do I really understand how to fix it or protect myself in the future. I built this site as a favor for an association of enterpreneurs and I have no resources to turn to for help. 'l'lll muddle through but I wish it were easier. I suspect that many others are in the same place.

I urge you and the core team to think about how we might get a usability effort working for DNN. I will be happy to help.

In the meanwhile, I will write up another reply to this post, summarizing what I learned in the hope that it may help someone else with a similar problem and minimal technical skills.

Agains, thanks for all your (and the DNN team's) hard work. It is a wonderful product.

Best,
