I'm very new to DNN and I apologize if this has been answered a hundred times already.  I searched these forums and the main DNN site of some kind of user guide that would answer this simple question but came up empty.

There is a new DNN update available... 5.01.01  I have downloaded the update zip to my local machine but I've no idea how to go about getting this update onto the production server.  Do I just unzip them locally and FTP them to the root of my site?  Help would be appreciated.  I'd also appreciate a link to a proper user guide so I don't have to come back here asking dumb questions.

Thanks

 Hi

You just have to unzip the package and FTP all files to your server - this overwrites older files.
The install process should start automatically.
MAKE SURE: You have backed up your database and have an offline backup of all the existing files.
If you are upgrading from a version after 4.5 (I think) you no longer have to modify the web.config as this is done by the install process.

Finding and searching for specific DNN information can sometimes be a little frustrating so I suggest you may also want to search for "How to upgrade" using the wonderful http://www.searchdotnetnuke.com/

 Good Luck

Thanks Ian

After following your instructions I browsed to my site and got a DNN "Site is under construction" message.  I used the site you mentioned to find out more about upgrading and found this tidbit

"Now browse your site to start the upgrade wizard (if you set "autoupgrade" to False in your web.config, you need to browse to "/install/install.aspx?mode=upgrade")"

This began the upgrade process, and so far everything seems fine.

Thanks again for your help.  Shouldn't the Install process be a pinned thread in the Install It! discussion?  Would make it a lot easier for people like me who are just trying to learn.
