DNN 4.9.4

I am managing www.recdiving.com and have recently started seeing something strange. On the home page you can still see the control collapsed control panel even when you are logged out.

This only seems to happen on the home page it doesn't show on other pages. I think it may be related to a module that was installed becasue I haven't touched the skin in some time.

Does anyone know what might cause this or how to resolve it?

Thanks,

John

I have had something like this happen before.  It turned out that one of the modules on the page had All Users checked for editing.   Look carefully at the page and see if one of the modules has its action menu visible, it will probably be the culprit.  If not, go to the Settings on each module and examine the permissions.  Hopefully that is all it is, otherwise finding a solution or even identifing the cause of the problem does not sound easy.  Cheers - Jeremy

THANK YOU!

That was it, I guess that is one of the problems with customers editing their own sites.  They had the page visible to everyone and one text/html module set to edit for all users.

The thing that is odd, why would you see that control panel bar even if  you are not logged in. It shows, but you can't do anything with it until you are logged in. Seems odd.

Thanks again,

John

I think in the Admin->Site Settings->Advanced, there is a setting to have the control panel visible for "page editors" or "module editors", so that is probably what is controling the visibility when a module is set to "all users" for edit priveleges.  Sort of a domino effect, and even though they can't use it, the control panel would still be visible.  If you don't want "module editors" to see the control panel, click the radio button for "page editors".  Although, it's possible to set the page edit to "all users", too, and then you'd have the same issue again.  But at least you know how to correct such an error now.
