Using DNN4.0

1) How do I allow access to a Module by the general public w/out registering them first?  I have gone in as host and admin and have checked the appropriate fields, but when I logout and try to gain access to my Gallery module, it requires a login?  Any ideas?

2) What is the best resource out there for learning more about DNN4.0?  I heard a dummies book is coming out soon, but don't want to wait.

3) What is the difference between a Registered User and a Subscriber in the Security Roles?

Thanks in advance.

1) use the action menu of the module to got ot module settings and use module specific permissions.

2) there are already two books for DNN3, that is functionally identical with DNN 4. Besides there is a guided tour on this site, there is a big documentation pack on the download page and there are multiple videos available (e.g. from Traincert).

3) All users that register (and are approved) are automatically in the registered users role. The subscriber is by default a demonstration for a public role, users can unsubscribe by themselves in their own user profile (reacheable by clicking your name). you can easily add individual roles like "Authors", "Supporters", ... and assign permissions for modules and pages.

Sebastian:

Thanks for the reply, but where is the Action menu for the module to go to the module setting and use module-specific permissions.

Can you show me the exact step to get to these settings?  Thank you.

log in as admin or host and be sure, you turned of preview mode in the control panel (there should be NO "+" in the magnifying glass).

Depending on the skin you use, you will usually find the action menu close to one corner of each module's container.

Sebastian:

I did the following:

Logged in as Host

1) Created a new page called Gallery

2) Set permissions so that all users could view.

3) Added the WT-Image Gallery (DNN4.0 compliant) into the content pane.

4) Set the module to inherit the page permissions.

5) Logged out

6) Clicked on the Gallery link and got the following response.

"Please Login to View and Edit your albums and images."

Could it be the WT-Image Gallery that is causing the issue?
