I want to give a user permissions to edit a DNN blog that is already set up for another user. I don't want this user to be able to post any new blog entries to the blog, I just want them to be able to edit any entries that were alrady posted by the user whose blog it is. In the blog team we have been discussing a future architecture for the module that supports "multiple author blogs", but in the intervening period I am wondering if there is a workaround where you can have the possiblity for a user to edit another user's existing blog posts (but not post new blog entries).

To see if this was possible I thought the first thing to do was to give the new user edit permissions under the "blog view" module settings. To be sure I also gave this user full edit permission on:

  • the page that the blog module is installed, and
  • the 'set up my blog' module (sometimes referred to as the 'menu' blog module)

I was hoping that this user when logged in an on the page of the other user's blog would see an "edit" link at the bottom of any blog entry, and hence be able to edit it. Howver no such edit link was visbile.

Is it the case that this should work (and if so what am i doing wrong?) or is it that this is not possible with the blog module (which would not be surprised considering the peculiarities of the legacy permissions model in the blog module).

Curious to hear thoughts & insights on this.
