I have a client that needs a single portal with different groups of users.  DNN is perfect for their needs except for one unusual request.  Their user base is split in to teams.  To simplify things imagine red team, blue team, green team, etc.  Each team logs in with their own domain; teamred.com, teamblue.com, etc.  I want to define 1 single portal with all the team domains as Aliases.  Here is the question - is there a way to change the Skin and Container(s) based on the URL?  I need teamblue.com to see a different skin/containers than teamgreen.com.  Another possible solution would be to be able to change the Skins and Containers based on a user Role, is there any way to make that possible?

If the answer to the above is simple no, does anyone have any suggestions for toher ways to tackle this or acheive a similar end result?  Any one doing anything like this currently with DNN?

Hey,

one possibility would be to use multiple portals, each with their own skins/CSS, then to use modules to share the user details and content?  It isn't ideal, but an option.  Ok, so I'm just looking into DNN Masters user profile sharing module (where you can share user profiles across multiple portals) for your user details, then you could look at Onyaktech modules for your content. I'm sure he has one that allows you to share an instance of your content across portals, I.e. you update it in one (primary) portal and it updates in the others.

Don't know if this would work for you as you may have need of more than simple HTML modules within your site, but worth looking into.

Hope this helps,

Reuben.

Take at the skin switcher code John Mitchell provides for free in this thread of his forums.

He provides two different methods - one based on portal alias, and one based on user roles.
