Couple of things here - you need to rename your main.css file to skin.css

you need to add <dnn:SOLPARTMENU runat="server" id="dnnSOLPARTMENU" />

Into the skin - where the JS is - remove that - and put in code above and your menu will display automatically.

You really didn't look at the skinning document did you? I've got on in an easy to read chm file which might make it more palatable, but honestly it does explain some of these things very well.

Nina, I've read almost every document, I even bought the DotNEtNuke book to fully understand the concept. I think it's not a good idea to use javascript with dotnetnuke, so I'll try it later. As for now I'll stick with the dotnetnuke dropdown menus.  Thank you all your help.

Ok - just to clarify - sometimes I've used fixed menus on sites that are not going to change and have hidden admin menus when logged in, and done this by using third party applications, but for dynamic menus to change the look and feel of the dropdown, you need to look at the css elements of the SolPart menu.

Just out of curiosity, what lead you to think that javascript menus were the way to go?

I have lots of cool drop down menus. I thought i could incorparate one of them to my new site. but i guess it doesn't worth to try since dotnetnuke has the drop down menu capability.

I have another question. I work at a school as a webmaster. I'm in the process of renewing the website and want to use dotnetnuke. I had developed a system where our facult upload their syllabi, update their profile and so forth.it has access database back-end. I was wondering if dotnetnuke has that capability. I know I can create them as members, but can they upload files and create their profiles as they like.

I would be very happy if you have any inputs on this.

Thanks

School Portal Skin

Yes you can in fact I've been involved in a couple of school portals and know there are a few running very successfully.

This example was a template converted to DNN, for the children to have their own portals, and there was a parents portal and a staff one as well. This site was implemented back in 2004 and has been quite a testament to technology and the education sector in Australia, but I believe there are many more schools and universities that utilise DNN, including the courses being offered.

The parent's portal and another design as did another site I did for the staff.

I hope you give this confidence in investigating it further, even though this is a bit off topic.
