I just moved a site from a Server 2008x64 with SQL 2008 to a Server 2008x64 with SQL 2005.

I had an issue where the 2008 db wouldn't attach to 2005 so instead exported the database contents from 2008 to a 2005 then dropped and moved.

When I try to update anything ont he Admin or Host Settings page I get :

Error: Host Settings is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'SkinID', table 'dnnACN.dbo.Skins'; column does not allow nulls.

However if I go to the Page Settings and set the skin, it takes. I am guessing that the export did not go well. I have checked all the sprocs, views, table to make sure it all matches but am still at a loss what would cause Admin and Host Settings changes from being written to the db.

Ron ~ I would recommend a comparison with either a clean install or at leat your previous install.  RedGate has a great tool for this that has a 14 day free trial.  I've been a RedGate user since they were in version 1 and find the tools almost impossible to live without (personal reference, not a pitch *grin*). That will at least confirm if you do / don't have an issue with database migration.

Cheers

Thanks Scott for the quick reply.

One of the servers is not mine so I can't install much, however I did go ahead and download SQL toolbelt and was able to compare against my database and a backup that I ftp'd from the orig server.

Two things that stand out are the missing aspnet_* roles and schemas from the database that is having issues. Would that cause the errors I am experiancing you think, or is this a difference between SQL Server 2005 and 2008? Not up to speed on 2008 but leanign fast!

Hope all is well with you!

One other issue that I just looked through is that the tables were built via SQL Generate scripts however it seems that those tables do not have the constraints where as the DNN install script does build these into the create statements for the tables.

Will run the SQL compare scripts tonight and see if I can get this sorted out.
