OK, but "iFinity Url Master" does "the trick" AFAIS from their site URLs. Is that "trick" a proprietary knowledge of iFinity or it's described somewhere? Not going to "repeat the trick" just wanted to understand how it's done, and what impact (if any) on DNN application it implies?

Hi Shamil

As a company offering both SEO services and DNN, we use the iFinity URL Rewriter module and I can confirm it is excellent.  I would highly recommend using it.

The dropping of the .aspx extension is described in detail in the module documentation as well as instructions on doing it in IIS6 (using wildcard extensions) and IIS7 (just works after applying the change in the module GUI).  There are some performance considerations but to be honest we haven't noticed a significant difference; you can see it in use (except on the News section) at our website SonicWALL Secure (please note we own this website and it is linked purely to demonstrate the module in use).  That is based on DNN4 but we are also using URL Rewriter on another DNN instance with DNN5.1.2 on 64-bit Windows/SQL Server without any problems.

It's worth noting that URL Rewriter can also sort out canonicalisation issues such as www.sonicwallsecure.com/Default.aspx and www.sonicwallsecure.com returning the same page but being index twice by Google (hence diluting your PageRank).

Finally, I can confirm iFinity's (Bruce's) support is 1st class.  We had a problem (our fault) and he was quick to assist and resolve it for us.

Do you use some special modules to optimize your site response time?

What skin objects/modules are used on your site's [Contact Us] page

Why in your site www.sonicwallsecure.com (News section) doesn't work Url rewriting?

are there not possible to do this? or else problems?

Hi Shamil,

I'm glad my post was of some assistance.

We have worked hard to get the website running so quickly as it's important for the user experience and SEO so I'm pleased that you noticed it!  The site is actually running CATALooK (massive eCommerce solution for DNN too) too which some people complain is quite resource-intensive so I think we've shown it is perfectly possible to build a resposive DNN website.

To answer your question, the SonicWALL Secure website is running on our own UK-based high availability, high performance DNN hosting infrastructure, specifically in this case a dedicated virtual machine (another overhead) running on the VMware platform.  We don't use any modules to improve performance.

We have used the Live Content (I'd highly recommend this) and DNN core 'Feedback' modules on the 'Contact Us' page.
