How do I find out what version of DNN a client site uses? (I have admin access)

And how do I upgrade?

The version information is found under Host settings. I am not aware of it being anywhere in the admin settings. As far as upgrading, you will need some kind of access and the right level of permissions to the website directory, such as FTP in order to unzip the upgrade package over the existing directory. You would also want to backup the directory and database before starting any upgrade.

if you file access to the DNN installation folder, you also get version number from /provider/dataprovider/sqldataproviders by highest number in sqldataprovider filenames

In addition to the previously posted suggestions:

  • If you have access to the database, the current version will be found in the last row of the Versions table.
  • If you have access to neither the site's installation files nor the database, look in the Admin-->Event Viewer for a recently logged exception. The AssemblyVersion field will give you the current framework version. This is the one time that you hope there has been an exception logged.
  • Ask your host. If you don't have access to the site's installation files and cannot first do a full backup of both the files and the database, you will not be able to upgrade without the host's assistance, anyway.
