Hi,

i'am moving a dnn(04.05.05) from an old windows 2000 server to a new windows 2003 server.
i'am using on both server Ms sql express 2005.

i've moved all the files, i did the settings in IIS. but it still doesn't work.
The installation folder of dnn is on the same location on both servers.

now i get this message:

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed.

what did i do wrong? or what did i forget?

thx.

hi,

these are the connectionstrings i see in web.config

  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=(local);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=;pwd=;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
   -->
  </connectionStrings>

Are you logging on to this new server with the same credentials you used with the old one? If so, I would run the SQL Express executable again on the new server and create a new instance for your db. Once you do this, I would restore a backup of my db to this new instance and the site should come up. It sounds like SQL Express is having trouble finding local data files associated with this instance of SQL. These files are located in the app data folder under the user's profile.

A quick and untested solution would beto copy the local profile of the user from the old server into the documents & setting folder on the new server, or at least the SQL folders found in the local app data folders.
