Hello,

Is there a preferred way to allow for users to have user specific modules loaded onto a page in DNN?  To further clarify,  I want every user that visits the site to be able to customize their pages with modules.  So for instance a module exists called "TestModule" and user1 and user2 can see this module.  User1 put the module in the "Content" pane after they login.  User2 logs in and puts "TestModule" in the "Left" pane.  Respectively when either of them login they get their own page exactly how they left it, sort of like sticky settings per user.

I have found the appropriate code that handles this, but it is in the "GetTabModulesCallBack" method in the modulecontroller.cs class in the framework.  I hestitate to modify this as it is strongly suggested not to for various reasons (upgrading primarily).

Does anyone have a cleaner way to accomplish this?

Thanks,

Martin

In the past, there was Smart Thinker Home Page

Now, ActiveModules has ActiveSocial.  ActiveModules is a very good company.

I believe there is one other option but I can't recall it now.

I saw a few of these in my search to find a solution but was wondering if there was any open source that was available instead of having to purchase these modules.

Thanks for the response...

None of the above modules allows end users to add modules to a page. With these modules the admin chooses the modules to add to the page and then the content within the modules is filtered based on the userid that is passed to the page via the querystring.

The main issue is that there is no way to dynamically create a new DNN page. If you want the admin to create the pages you can add the TRT control panel to DNN 4.x which will limit the modules end users can see in the control panel. Or I believe this ability is built into DNN 5.

The Smart Thinker modules are open source - if you can get away with just having the content within admin placed modules change based on user.
