Thank you! This saved me a bunch of time. Let hope DNN gets this file included in all the install packages so others don't have to deal with this.

We came by the same error as well. Only cost us a couple of days, ffs!!!  Overwrote the new SOURCE Dotnetnuke dlls in the Bin folder with the Dotnetnuke dlls from the UPGRADE  folder and lo and behold it worked OK. Now what really ******* me off is that this is a brand new version and it failed at the very FIRST hurdle. So who has tested this so-called "STABLE' release?

Maybe it's time Dotnetnuke reverted to its former format (and glory!!) before the days of Share certificates! What do you reckon Mr Shaun Walker?

[PS Because this was a new release we mistakenly believed this had been tested thoroughly and put all of our efforts into our own modules and third Party modules assuming that was where the error was.

After the issues we suffered with IMC on DNN 5.0.0 not so very long ago and the reticence of Mr Charles Nurse to readily admit there was an issue, somebody, somewhere in the upper reaches of the Dotnetnuke hierarchy needs to get a grip on testing.

Try copying the standards that the FDA imposes I would respectfully suggest.]

I too had the same issue.  Thanks for your solution pointing out the js/dnn.xmlhttp.js change.  Even though the file that i replaced seemed to have the same signature (size was the same), extracting the file from the full install worked for me.

Sure would like for DNN to only use the message 'Critical Updates Available' when the update really is critical and hardened.  This upgrade from 5.0.0 to 5.1.2 cost me a day to debug.

Okej, this did happened again yesterday. I was trying to upgrade to 05.01.04 and I did get the same error message again. But the last trick didn't work this time. So I tried a lot of things until I founded the new solution. What I noticed was that it didn't even unzip the js files, I DotNetNuke_Community_05.01.04_Upgrade/js and there was no js files in there. And when trying to extract only the js folder, it actually says "An error occurred while copying the file". It doesn't say that when extracting all instead it just skips the files. So the problem yesterday was that I didn't use the newest files.

All this was done directly from remote desktop on my Win2003 developer server. I was close to give up, but then tested to unzip the files on my Win7 client, and damn, it did extract the files in the js folder. Just copied them in to the js folder on the server, and all started to work again :)

And today I did noticed the next thing, I was trying to access the host settings to change smtp settings, and ended up with a new error message, "iswebfarm is not a member of dotnetnuke.entities.host.servercontroller". So I stared to look around what the hell that was wrong this time.. and then I noticed the same.. the unziped version on my Win2003 server was missing all .vb files in \DesktopModules\Admin\, so it was trying to use an old version of DesktopModules\Admin\HostSettings\hostsettings.vb. So I tested the same again, unziping on Win7, and copy it to the server, and again, all started to work just perfect :)

So you should NEVER upzip DNN zipfiles on win2003 server as it skips some important files like .js and .vb files.

Use Firefox and Firebug - had the same problem...was working on a module today - an boom: suddenly i started to get that error...
Not even restarting solved the problem.

Watching firebug, I saw that the error came from "StyleSheetWidget" located at: /Resources/Widgets/DNN/StyleSheetWidget.js
Perhaps not the best solution - but renamed it, reloaded, (menu didn't work - no error message) renamed it back, reloaded: Worked like a charm again...
