Hi, I need a "step by step" do make the DNN update "critical updates avaiable".

Anyone knows where I can have a documentation about that?

Thanks in advance,

1) Download the latest upgrade version in your series, 4.x or 5.x.

2)  Install the upgrade.

The install process is not intuitive... despite the smug reply to the question. I found this thread... because I was also looking for information. There are plenty of posts - indicating horror stories of site crashes ... so make sure you back up your database and filesystem. Because of that - I only upgrade if absolutely necessary. Sebastian Leupold provided a somewhat more informative post... but I spent the last 40 minutes making the upgrade. 1). The links to upgrade files are hidden within this site. The breadcrumbs are intuitive... but the 'download' page is indimidating (it took me almost 2 full days and 4 attempts to get DNN up and running... so I hate that page.) Click the 'download community'... it takes you to another page with some options (in small print). Find the 'upgrade package' hyperlink... which will finally take you to a download site: codeplex (http://dotnetnuke.codeplex.com/releases/view/50755#DownloadId=143675). 2) The contents of the downloaded zipfile do not install as easily as a DNN Module zip file. You have to do it yourself... it has to go into the correct folder... you need to preserve the directory structure of the zipfile. In my case it was C:/DotNetNuke/Install ... you may have C:/inetpub/DNN/Install. I I was UNABLE to simply open the zipfile using MSExplorer and drag the contents into the /INSTALL folder of my DNN file system. I got a 'file error' every time. I went to IIS, stopped the website. Used a licensed version of winzip and extracted the zipfile into the Install directory from a different computer... using a mapped network drive to the DNN site directory. 3) Using IIS, re-start the website. Navigate to the 'root' portal. I didn't see any messages that the install was happening or completed. Eventually, I noticed that the red "Critical Updates" button went away. Hope this a bit more helpful than the terse reply I found when I was looking for help.

well...   my method didn't work either...   so read this and accept my apology for posting 'disinformation'.     To find the answer I added yet another post.   So did about 7 other people.
The response from and employee was:

Upgrading DotNetNuke entails copying the contents of the Upgrade zip right over the top of the existing install.  This actually replaces a lot of files in place and the application, when it starts the next time, detects these changed files and upgrades itself.  So you don't put the files in the Install folder... you actually copy them over the root of the site (you'll notice that the Upgrade package folders match the folders in your site root directory).

Why they don't just post it somewhere....
