Based on these settings, you have it configured to use SQL Server 2005, not 2000. Make sure you delete or comment out the SQL Server 2005 settings and are using the ones for SQL Server 2000, if that's the database you're using. Outside of this, it looks ok, from what I can tell - assuming your DB perms are setup correctly.

Could someone copy and paste the section of their web.config file that they made changes to for DNN4 to install?  I have tried everything that I can think of to get the config correct, but nothing seems to work.  I need to see a config what worked so that I can compare with my non working config.  I am using SQL Authentication on a SQL Server 2000 enterprise which is installed on the local server.  My database name is “DotNetNuke and the SQL Server is named (local).

I would send my error screen, but every change that make creates a different error.  I think that if I compare with a working config, I can get it working.  Once I get it working, I will be setting up a couple other portals on different servers and then after I have done if a few times successfully, I will make a nice step by step manual with screenshots that will include every step to do a problem free install.

Thanks,

The settings are together for SQL 2000/2005, what do I comment out?

Thanks,

I'm having exactly the same problems.  I've set the Connection string to what I believe it should be:

  <connectionStrings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2005 Express
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.\SQLExpress;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />    -->
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 -->
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=mssql.namesco.net;Database=*database*;uid=*username*;pwd=*password*;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <!-- Connection String for SQL Server 2000/2005 - kept for backwards compatability - legacy modules -->
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=mssql.namesco.net;Database=*database*;uid=*username*;pwd=*password*;" />
    <add key="InstallTemplate" value="DotNetNuke.install.config" />

As you can see, I've changed very little, but obviously changed the server specific details...
I've getting the same error as mehenson first had.

I've looked at other installations that are working on the server I am using, and cannot see any difference between theirs and mine!

Nunners,

I got mine working finally, have you had any luck yet?  Today, I took my experiance and made a 4 page manual with step by step instructions for setting up DNN 4.x on a Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000.  Send me an email and I will reply back with the this guide.  Maybe my guide will help you catch whatever is causing it not to install.
