My intranet site (in dev) has been running for almost a month on Active directory authentication with auto-login. Suddenly today it threw -

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.AuthenticationController

Now to trouble shoot the settings, i need to login as host/portal admin. However i do not get to the forms login page if i browse to the root of the site. How do i bring back my forms login? included login control in my skin.

1. I tried commenting the http module -> Active directory line.

2. Enable Anonymous access.

3. Disable impersonation

What else i should do? Please help me out.

Did you disable the DNN authentication when you set the site up? If you did then you need to re-enable it in the database. You don't say what version of DNN you're running but in DNN 4 you have to look in the ModuleSettings table and in DNN 5 you need to look in the PortalSettings table. I don't have a database handy but it'll be a field with DNN_Enabled (or something similar) and the value set to False. Change it to true and reload the page and you should be good.

Now i restored my old db back up and reworked on couple of items.

I thought its in Authentication table. I checked in PortalSettings. DNN is enabled. How do i make sure user gets redirected to forms login, in case this happens again.

The Authentication table sets where it's available for all portals or not.
