 Hello,

I tried to install DNN 5.1.2 on GoDaddy and received the following error :

DotNetNuke Error

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.format(IformatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at System.String.format(String format, Object arg0) at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.TestDatabaseConnection() at DotNetNuke.Services.Install.InstallWizard.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

Any idea why this happened?

Thanks!

I was able to install it. Mine is deluxe hosting plan. I made use the web application installation provided by Godaddy to install 4.9's version first and I then upgrade to 5.1.2 with no problem. However, there is another issue I encountered.

When I trid to install a silverlight video module, I found that I needed full power of the directory. I contacted Godady, they rejected my request to give me full power. Is there anyone able to tackle this? It has been bothering me and up to now the problem still not able to solve.

The only real solution is to switch to a different web host.  Godaddy is not only NOT Dotnetnuke frienly, part of the reason is that they are using really outdated security protocols, and I mean outdated by 4-5 years!  Godaddy is great for domain name registration, and maybe for other less complex applications.  Don't even think you are going to host a DNN e-commerce site on Godaddy and have it work.  I've had clients that eventually dropped Godaddy so they could do what they needed to do with their DNN site.  They got a prorated refund from Godaddy and found out there are much, much better web hosts out there that offer a lot more for a lot less money.  Not to mention the fact that using outdated security protocols that Microsoft recommended simple updates to quite a few year ago just raises HUGE red flags imo... Drop Godaddy like a hot potato and try 3essentials or webhost4life, both are excellent DNN hosts, great support teams, and DNN will actually work without all the hassles and work arounds and huge chunks of time you'll waste trying to get things going at Godaddy... Godaddy is the absolute worst choice for DNN hosting and I personally won't even consider it as an option until they start keeping up with the times in regards to security protocols and updates and get a tech support team that can actually answer the questions you ask (I often found that I would ask one thing, and they would give an answer to an entirely different question I never asked, and never got an answer to the question I did ask).
