Hi,  we've just discovered a problem if you're trying to launch a Word or Excel 2007 file from our DNN site (ver 4.9.3) from Internet Explorer v8.  At first I thought it was the Speerio File Manager module, but I had the same problem from a normal Documents module.  I also tried launching a docx using IE8 and a different web app, and that works OK too.  It seems to be just in DNN we are having problems.

If you try and open the file it thinks it is a zip file, which if you open you'll see the Word doc broken down into its xml files.

Anyone got any ideas about this?  We are an online college and this is starting to cause us problems where students are uploading Word 07 docx files, and tutors using IE8 can't open them.  Half of them are totally illiterate, so telling them to use firefox instead doesn't work!

Hi, sorry - this was nothing to do with DNN, and everything to do with IE8's new security features...which is fairly bizarre as it's all microsoft

Anyway, if you're interested, you need to add the site to your Trusted Sites list before it'll open a docx or xlsx file from IE8.

Thanks for the info. We had the same problem and had to save them as .doc to get it to work. Tried that and worked fine.
