Thanks for showing me where the code is. An SDK is an API into third party component, not the source code for that component. That's why I didn't get the download you're referring to. Not a problem, tho. Thanks for pointing me to that. I'll take a look at it.

No matter what combination of navigation provider and menu control (Menu.ascx or Nav.ascx) I used, I always got the same SolPart menu, which was a lot of my aggravation and ultimately left me with no place to look except for the SolPart menu. I eventually stopped playing with that to find a work-around. I'll try using the TreeViewMenu.ascx control later, tho.

Again, thanks for pointing me to the code. This will be a big help in finding the problem (wherever it is). Honestly, I don't care where the problem is, I just want it fixed. I'll make sure to post my findings and/or solution once I've found one.

Last time I checked a SDK stood for Software Developers Kit, which is what the download is, for it provides samples on how the menu can be used in different scenerios and is indended to be downloaded by software developers.  Being an open-source project, it seems natural (to me) that this kit would contain the entire source code as well, as opposed to including only the binaries in it and providing a separate download.  This way a developer could modify the menu code as well as the samples.

As far as testing something other than solpart I believe you are making things much more difficult than necessary.  The default skins included in DNN contain samples of other controls without the need to concern yourself with usercontrols (skin objects).  However, if you still wish to persue using Nav.ascx for another control I can answer any specific questions you have to get that approach to work.

From wikipedia

A software development kit (SDK) is typically a set of development tools that allows a software engineer to create  applications for a certain software package, software framework, ... or similar. It may be something as simple as an [API] in the form of some files to interface to a particular programming language...

Despite this, I saw no mention of the menu being open source. DNN is, but that doesn't mean that the SolPart menu is. I'm not saying there is no mention of it anywhere, I just never noticed any. This is honestly a menial point to argue. I'm just saying that the this is an incorrect usage of the term - agree or not, it has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

I honestly have no need to use any other skin objects. I only threw them on the page for testing purposes in deducing the problem. I thought it was odd that changing the navigation provider did nothing, which was a secondary issue, but one that I'm not too concerned about, as long as I can get the primary issue resolved.
