I've installed 5.1.4, and want to get started writing a custom membership provider.

But I cant do anything until I can get my base install of 5.1.4 working the way that 4.5 does.

I need the login link to work, and not return a 404.

If I use the ?ctl=login I can enter my uname and pwd, but I get redirected to another 404 (Home.aspx).

If I login as Admin, none of the Admin links work.

If I login as Host, the Host functions work but the Admin functions do not.

I know I'm not providing much detail here, but i dont have alot to go on.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me get over this hump.

Thanks.

David

  • are you using default Skin/Container?
  • which browser are you using?
  • did you clear local browser cache?

I'm having a simular problem. I have done a clean install of DNN Communit Edtion 5.1.4 that was just recently release.

I installed all the options, providers, add-ons during the install; the only provider I didn't install was the active directory authorization provider.

I have installed it 3 times now. SAme problem each time. Tried it with the commented Authorization Provider uncommented in the web.config file.

When I attempt to logon with any account Host or Admin I am redirected back to the home page with no Admin and/or Host tabs as appropriate.

I don't think I have done anything wrong and have no idea what else to try. I have clear the cache on my browser I have restarted my computer along with the app pool on the server - several times actually.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hi,

I think we had similar problems. Can you check if under Desktopmodules/Authentication...a OpenID, LiveId and DNN folders are present? Since you can't login, you can't see the exception thrown. Do select * from eventlog to see the errors thrown.

If auth. porblem. Move back the authentications zip files from the Install/Modules/...folders and do <your domain localhost>/Install/Install.aspx?mode=upgrade and see if it runs.

We finally got a successful install by adding the ASP.NET user also as db owner and db user. However, we do not recommend this for a production environment. But for dev. it is fine.

If this is a development site using "localhost", the human friendly url's will cause 404's.  You can't use DNN 5's human friendly url's on localhost, at least not if you are also using the port number in the url, human friendly url's will only work on a live site with an actual domain name url structure.  Try changing "humanfriendly" to "searchfriendly" in the web.config.  But, if you are able to login at all, I suspect this isn't the problem, but it can't hurt anything either to turn off the human friendly url's and see if it solves part of the problem.  You do need to be fairly specific with your set up and environment, version numbers, etc to get a more specific answer or for a core team member to attempt to duplicate the problem.
