Hello,

I'm using the latest forum module 4.5.3 and noticed that quoting a post is not that easy. In the previous version there were [quote] tags which I found to be quite easy as the user knows where the quote starts and ends, however in the latest version the [quote] tags have dissapeared instead  div tags are being used. So is it possible to automatically have the quote tags in the editor and remove the styled div?

If it's modifying the source code, please let me know where and how to go about it. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 so will it compile?

Thanks and looking forward to a positive response.

I see what you mean about the quote method. It really looks like it just needs another div created below the quote one and things will be OK. Using the Visual studio 2005 should work but I only worked with the 2008 solution for the last release. You will need to be setup to work on WAP projects to make any changes, and you should start with Forum_PostEdit.ascx.vb.

One thing I noticed is I only saw this issue w/ the Telerik Editor and a custom forum theme. Using the stock theme and FCK, this worked just fine. Regardless, I have updated the code to insert the div (even though it may be extra content not necessary for all situations).

By the way, this can be done in a function called ProcessQuoteBody (not sure where this was in 4.5.3, in local version it is in PostContent.vb, but I think this class/File is new for my local version).

Hello Crispy, thanks for your response.

I'm not quite sure how to go about changing the code and compiling it in VS 2005 so I would really appreciate if you could give me some sort of patch. Basically I don't want the quote divs to be embedded automatically instead I would prefer uing the [quote] tags which are visible to the user coz there is a likely chance that a user can click inside the div and start typing.

Please please please!!! I really need that patch as i'm launching my site very soon and it's kinda urgent

Thanks once again!

Just adding my vote for the change here.  The problem with the new behavior is that the users are confused by it.  My site uses the default theme and fckeditor.  They are constantly editing inside the quoted section.  If you look at my site's forums, this is happening in just about every thread.  It's become a topic of conversation in the forum itself.

They do not realize they need to move the cursor all the way to the end to get outside the quoted Div.  There is no visable indication of the end of the quoted Div unless you turn on the show blocks toggle.  The older [QUOTE] method is much easier for them to deal with.  Using this forum (www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums) is much easier.

Thanks for all your work.
