And are there anything in special to think about when doing it?

I've followed Mitch's procedure - http://www.mitchelsellers.com/blogs/articletype/articleview/articleid/278/upgrade-to-dotnetnuke-500-from-462-or-later.aspx - and have had great success.  Make sure you back up both the database and the files and use the Upgrade content.  There may be some issues with module compatibility. so you should be ready to upgrade them also.

It ran mostly fine for me too... but Catalook is a seriously struggle to get going if you have a recent version of it (the DNN5 compatible version is lower than the DNN 4 version so a problem getting it properly installed which I'm yet to achieve over 2 days of trying).

Apart from that so far it is looking fine.

Definitely without a doubt get a backup of the database and the files.  I'd also recommend updating a test copy of your live site first, see what pops up (this is what I am doing).

Good! I have no third party modules on this site I am about to upgrade, and the Mitchel Sellers procedure is the one I always use , where it is possible. But it feels kind of awkward to do such a big jump from 4.9.5 to 5.1.4 in one operation. I have already upgraded my own sites, but they were 5.1.2 before the upgrade and that went smoothly.

I do have third party modules, but the one that's caused me problems is the HTML module.

You must have backups of file system and database before you unzip over your existing site.
