I notice the forum module includes a pngfix.js routine that doesn't seem well implemented.

The png fix runs in all versions of Internet Explorer, it only needs to run in IE6 or less. Why run this fix on browsers that natively support transparent PNG?

Could use

<!--[if lte ie 6]>
<![endif]-->

to limit the script to IE6 or less. Else detect the browser version in JavaScript.

Also, limiting the action of this script to just PNG images used in the forum module might be wise. Skin developers might not appreciate a script running on their PNG images with results outside of their control.

You are correct James, there are many things that could be done here. Originally, over two years ago, I just copied the js file from the Repository module and added it here with a module option to disable/enable it. I expect that in future version, the script and the option will be taken out completely (considering IE 6 is at about 12% market share as Sep. 2009 and losing roughly 1% monthly; I think this rate will increase with the WIndows 7 Release this month).

Recently  we've experience strange behavoiur from the forum after posting a PNG image.   The image size is 640x480.  The image properties within the forum are set to 320x240px

We're running DNN 5.1.2 with Forum 4.5.3

Firefox 3.0.14 renders the image size correctly,

IE8  - using the Forum Preview mode the image renders the size correctly 320x240.  However, the 'Live' view renders the image in the full 640x480 sizing

Any suggested work arounds are appreciated.

I assume you mean posting the image in content. I honestly haven't seen this as an issue. Have you tried viewing the same post AFTER disabling the png script?
