I posted several times about email template, but I got still problems in using forum module.

So, I tried to re-upload forum module. This time, I tried to install w/source file, but I couldn't upload the module. There was several failures, such as

"ResourceFile specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: Resources.zip",

"File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.dll"

"File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.SqlDataProvider.dll"

"File specified in the dnn could not be found in the zip file: DotNetNuke.Modules.Forum.Popup.dll"

and the last failure is "ExceptionSystem.Exception: Dnn load failed, aborting at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnAdapter_V2.ReadDnn() at DotNEtNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

Was I wrong to upload Forum install w/source file?

Please somebody help me. I have been struggling in using Forum module for about a month.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Use the Install version it works just fine! So the result is the source + install which is OK! This is a bug that has to be reported!

Thanks for the help.

I tried the install version. It seemed OK to use, but when I tested the email notification, it did not work. When I tested it,  a user could receive the email notification, but when I click 'here', I could not go to the thread page. Just error page showed up. I have no idea what's wrong. I have been struggling in using Forum module for about a month. I could solve file attachment, but I got this problem.

Thanks in advance.

DinE:

Unless you plan on modifying the code elements of the module itself using VisualStudio or some such developer tool, I am pretty sure you don't want the source- you want the Install.

I am not saying that re-uploading the install will solve your problems... just that trying to upload the unpackaged source won't.
But you just found that out the hard way.

Installing the Source version through the module definition installer should cause an error and not install the module. Source zip versions are meant so you download the source code and copy it to your local dnn install. Most open source releases do not include compiled assembly's with their source code because the point of the source code is you will create your own. There are several reasons for doing it this way and one is to minimize the amount of data to transfer (aka file size). To install a module in DotNetNuke, the framework itself requires the dll files be included within the installable zip file at the top level. Thus the reason we have seperate named releases.

In previous versions of DotNetNuke when you downloaded an install which included modules, these modules were not packaged this way. This is one of the changes from the projects being broken out and this will occur more and more over time (this thought that you can install the source version) When working with the source you should install the Install zip and then just copy over the Source zip contentslocally. There is really no need to have the source files in a production enviroment.

There is apparently a bug in the email when using DotNetNuke 4.x versions. I have not verified this personally but I am going off the word of the community. I have an idea of what the problem may be, if it exists, but explaining it here might cause more harm than good.
