Trying to figure out a recent problem... developing in VS 2008 Team Suite. My typical development environment consists of my module development environment with a single exxternal reference to the DotNetNuke.dll.

Previously, I wasn't having an version issues related to the DotNetNuke.dll reference, but now I am. For example, if I use a DotNetNuke.dll from version 5.1.4 in my development environment and I deploy my module to a site using 5.1.2... I get something like this...

The project currently contains references to more than one version of DotNetNuke, a direct reference to version 5.1.2.51 and an indirect reference (through 'DotNetNuke.Modules.tss_DKP.tss_DKP') to version 5.1.4.3. Change the direct reference to use version 5.1.4.3 (or higher) of DotNetNuke.

I've checked that my development environment is referencing the 5.1.4.3 without Copy Local and without Specific Version enabled.

Anyone have suggestions? I don't want to be tied to a specific version of DotNetNuke for obvious reasons. If I know DotNetNuke 3 through 5 will work, why not let them work?

Your module project must reference and be compiled against the MINIMUM version of DNN framework that you will support. Thus if you will support DNN 5.1.2 and above, reference a 5.1.2 dotnetnuke.dll. Unless there are breaking changes in the core framework (which the core developers do their best to avoid), your module would then be installable in DNN 5.1.2, 5.1.3, 5.1.4, etc.
